Recently something written by Progress Center was plagiarized. A person took some written and already disseminated words, changed a phrase out of a couple paragraphs, and signed their name to it. These words are now public record. Progress Center condemns this practice. This has happened in some form before by others, and many have been victim. Please be aware.
True champions of independent living have their own unique voice and do not simply mimic what others say. Furthermore, true leaders do not tell others what to say or think nor dictate words or thoughts. Leaders of our movement share information, fight for issues to be properly debated and discussed, and call out inequity.
Sharing writing is different than taking credit for it. Dishonesty doesn't help. It’s a distraction and risks hurting the credibility of the movement. This isn't a competition. It's people's livelihoods, quality of life, even life or death. We don't advocate for people; we advocate with you. We want your voice and power within you to shine.
We encourage anyone - consumer, citizen, member, or employee of another organization - wanting to develop their voice or willing to advocate alongside us to contact us.
