🌟Leader Spotlight | Introducing RLND Class XI
We are excited to introduce the newest cohort of Rural Leadership North Dakota, a group of remarkable individuals committed to growing, leading, and strengthening communities across our state.
-----
Hello everyone! I am Briana Spellerberg, and I am honored to be part of Rural Leadership North Dakota Class XI.
My work is driven by a passion for supporting rural North Dakota communities and addressing the challenges and opportunities that exist where healthcare and agriculture intersect. I grew up in Milnor, North Dakota, and now have the privilege of serving my home county as the Director of Nursing for the Sargent County District Health Unit (SCDHU). Over the past eight years, this role has allowed me to strengthen public health systems, collaborate with local partners, and build a strong network across the state.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Jamestown and advanced my leadership skills through the North Dakota Public Health Leadership Academy. I also trained as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), fulfilling a goal I had since high school. My commitment to rural health extends through my service on the Lidgerwood Rural Ambulance Service District Board, the Lidgerwood/Hankinson Clinic Board, and the Expanding Access and Connection Goal Group of the Multi-Partner Health Collaborative.
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active in the communities where I live and serve through organizations such as Milnor Lutheran Church and Dakota Estates. My background in agriculture and my healthcare experience led me to become a Stop the Bleed trainer, empowering others to respond effectively in emergencies.
My husband, Brandon, and I live on our family’s row-crop farm outside of Lidgerwood with our two children. Together, we also maintain a small cattle herd and enjoy the rhythm of rural life.
✨ Fun Facts about Briana
1. During nursing school, I spent three weeks in Africa, immersing myself in the culture and local healthcare—and even experiencing an unforgettable safari.
2. My small herd of cows started with a single bottle calf that I brought home in a dog crate in the back of my pickup.
3. I love showing hospitality to friends and family, a tradition I proudly carry on from my Grandma Polly.
