St. Patrick’s Day Myth Buster 🍀

Just because something is “natural” or green…
Doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Herbal supplements can interact with:
💊 Blood thinners
💊 Blood pressure meds
💊 Diabetes medications
💊 Antidepressants

“Natural” still affects your body.

Before adding that new supplement you saw online, ask your pharmacist.
We’re here to protect more than just prescriptions. 💚

🦠 Ringworm: It’s Not a Worm (And Steroid Cream Won’t Fix It)

Ringworm is a fungal infection, not a parasite. It shows up as:

⭕ Red, circular rash
⭕ Raised or scaly border
⭕ Clearer skin in the center
⭕ Often itchy

It can appear on the body, scalp, feet, or groin.

🧴 Best OTC Treatments

Look for antifungal creams like:

✔️ Clotrimazole 1%
✔️ Miconazole 2%
✔️ Terbinafine 1% (often works fastest)

Apply:
• Thin layer
• 1–2 times daily
• For 2–4 weeks
• Continue 1 week after it looks gone

🚫 What NOT To Do

❌ Don’t use hydrocortisone alone
Steroids can make fungal infections worse and harder to treat.

❌ Don’t stop early
Even if it looks better in a few days, the fungus may still be there.

🧼 Extra Tips

• Keep area clean and dry
• Don’t share towels
• Wash bedding and clothing regularly
• Athletes: shower after practice

🚨 See a provider if:
• It’s on the scalp
• It’s spreading rapidly
• No improvement after 2 weeks
• You’re unsure what it is

Ringworm is common and very treatable — just make sure you’re using the right product.

💊 Metformin: One of the Most Prescribed Medications in the U.S.

Metformin is commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes — and for good reason. It helps lower blood sugar by:

✔️ Reducing how much sugar your liver makes
✔️ Helping your body use insulin more effectively
✔️ Improving insulin sensitivity over time

It does not usually cause low blood sugar by itself, which makes it a great first-line treatment.

👀 Common side effects:
• Upset stomach
• Diarrhea
• Nausea

Taking it with food can help reduce stomach issues. Extended-release (ER) versions are often easier on the stomach too.

⚠️ Important:
• Let your provider know if you have kidney problems
• You may need to temporarily stop it before certain imaging tests with contrast
• Regular lab work helps ensure it’s working safely

Metformin has been around for decades — and it’s still a gold standard for managing type 2 diabetes.

We promise we’re not hiding it in the back 😉

Here’s what happens after your doctor sends a prescription:

💻 It enters our system electronically (most of the time)
👀 we enter and processes it
🛡️ A pharmacist reviews it for safety, interactions, and correct dosing
💳 Insurance has to approve and price it
🏷️ Then we fill, label, and do a final safety check

Even e-prescriptions take time — usually 15–30 minutes (sometimes longer during busy times).

We always want it ready as fast as possible — but we also want it safe and correct. 💊❤️

Pro tip: Call ahead or use our app or sign up for text messaging to check status before coming in.

We’re on your team — just give us a few minutes to work our magic ✨

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death — and high cholesterol often has no symptoms.

Statins work behind the scenes by helping your liver remove excess cholesterol from the blood and by stabilizing plaque inside your arteries. That plaque stabilization is a big reason they lower heart attack and stroke risk.

A few helpful tips:
• Take your statin consistently — same time each day (often bedtime for this class)
• Let your pharmacist know about any new muscle pain
• Tell us about other medications or supplements you take (some can interact)

Your numbers matter — but so does prevention. 💙
We’re always here to answer your questions.

“WHY is it THIS much?!”

We get this question a lot — and it’s completely understandable ❤️

Here’s the honest answer:

💊 Pharmacies do not set prescription prices.
💳 Your insurance company determines:
• Your copay
• Your deductible
• What tier your medication falls into
• Whether it’s covered

We process the claim exactly as your insurance sends it back to us.

What can we do?
✔️ Check for manufacturer coupons for some medications
✔️ Look at lower-cost alternatives
✔️ Contact your provider if needed
✔️ Help you understand your deductible

We’re on your team — even if we don’t control the scoreboard.

🤧 Cough & Cold Meds: What You Should Know Before You Buy 🤧

Not all cough and cold medicines work the same—and choosing the right one can make a big difference (and avoid side effects).

Here’s a quick guide to common ingredients you’ll see on the shelf:

🔹 For cough
• Dextromethorphan – Helps quiet a dry, nagging cough
• Guaifenesin – Loosens mucus so you can cough it up

🔹 For congestion
• Phenylephrine or Pseudoephedrine – Helps relieve stuffy noses
⚠️ May raise blood pressure or heart rate—check with us first

🔹 For runny nose & sneezing
• Antihistamines (like diphenhydramine or loratadine)
⚠️ Some can cause drowsiness or confusion, especially in older adults

🔹 For aches & fever
• Acetaminophen – Gentle on the stomach when used correctly
⚠️ Watch total daily dose—many combo products already include it

🚨 Important reminders:
✔️ Multi-symptom products may treat symptoms you don’t even have
✔️ “PM” formulas can cause drowsiness and increase fall risk
✔️ Some cold meds can interact with blood pressure, heart, or diabetes medications

💡 Best advice?
Don’t guess—ask your pharmacist. We can help you choose something that treats your symptoms safely.

📍 Stop in or ask at the counter—we’re always happy to help 💊🫶
