Important Safety Alert: ByHeart Infant Formula Recall
We are sharing an urgent safety notice regarding a recent expanded recall of all ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula products (originally recalled 11/08 and expanded 11/11) due to a potential link to infant botulism. This recall affects multiple states, including Texas.

According to the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/botulism/outbreaks-investigations/infant-formula-nov-2025/index.html ), there have been reports of infant botulism associated with this formula.

If you are using ByHeart infant formula, please take the following steps immediately:
• STOP using all ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula products immediately.
• RECORD the lot number and "best by" date of your ByHeart formula.
• KEEP the product and clearly label it "DO NOT USE" for one month. Public health officials may need to collect the formula for testing if your infant develops symptoms.
• After one month without symptoms, DISCARD the formula safely.
• WASH all surfaces that may have come into contact with the formula (bottles, counters, etc.) with soap and warm water or in a dishwasher.

Symptoms of infant botulism can take up to a month to appear and include:
1. Poor feeding
2. Loss of head control
3. Difficulty swallowing
4. Decreased facial expression

If your infant has consumed ByHeart infant formula and develops ANY of these symptoms, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Infant botulism can cause progressive paralysis, leading to difficulty breathing and hospitalization if untreated. Effective treatment is available, especially when administered promptly.

We understand this is concerning. Your child's health and well-being are our top priority. Please contact our office or your pediatrician with any questions or concerns.

On October 10th, 2025, the IET Soldiers of the WBAMC Medical Readiness Battalion Student Detachment engaged in a dynamic Army Combatives training session for their weekly physical training. The focus of this session was on movement conditioning, agility exercises, and drills to boost coordination, endurance, and overall combat readiness. It’s inspiring to see our Soldiers sharpening their skills and staying mission-ready!

Join us on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Executive Dining Room at our WBAMC main campus to participate in the Patient and Family Partnership Council.

The PFPC brings together patients, families, and healthcare team-members to share ideas and improve the overall healthcare experience at WBAMC. Strong patient care equals enhanced readiness. Your perspective matters, and there are two ways to get involved:

1. Become a PFPC Advisor: Advisors volunteer to partner with healthcare team-members to represent the interests of all patients cared for by our military treatment facility. Additionally, they help implement improvements that support the health, wellness, and readiness of our force. To learn more or sign up, contact the Patient Experience Office at 915-742-2692/2508.

2. Attend the PFPC Meeting: Anyone can participate simply by showing up. Share your ideas, offer feedback, and help shape a better patient experience for our community and directly strengthen the readiness of our force.

We will also highlight one of our providers, and this quarter, we will introduce MAJ Amanda Bischoff, who works in the Women’s Health Department. We hope to see you at the PFPC next week!

Pertussis (whooping cough) spreads fast and isn’t just a bad cold. It can lead to pneumonia, seizures, and severe complications – especially for infants. Illness in families also impacts Soldier Readiness, training schedules, and mission capability.
Stay protected with vaccines! Inquire about DTaP and Tdap vaccines with your primary care provider.

Symptoms of Pertussis:
- Severe coughing fits
- High-pitched “whoop”
- Vomiting after coughing
- Trouble breathing

If you’re sick or are experiencing these symptoms:
- Call your PCM or the 24/7 Nurse Advice Line
- Go to the ER for breathing trouble or emergencies

Keeping yourself and your family vaccinated helps our communities stay healthy and force ready.
