Delta Alpha Pi at CSU- Fort Collins

Delta Alpha Pi at CSU- Fort Collins “Working for an aDAPtable world” Delta – D for Disability, but also the triangle, symbol of strength. Alpha – A for Achievement.

The purpose of this Society is to recognize the academic accomplishments of university students with disabilities, to facilitate development of leadership and advocacy skills, and to provide unique opportunities for members to serve as mentors and role models. Members of Delta Alpha Pi demonstrate strength as leaders on campus to help break down the barriers of negativism. Also, they serve as mentors and role models for other students with disabilities. Alpha is the beginning and academic achievement must come first. But also for advocacy because students must advocate for themselves before they can advocate for others. Members of Delta Alpha Pi enhance advocacy skills for themselves and for the rights of all individuals with disabilities to be included fully in society. Pi – P for Pride, pride in academic achievement and in other accomplishments, not just as students with disabilities but as members of the university community. Pi is a mathematical symbol that we all learned to use in elementary arithmetic classes. So Pi is an appropriate symbol for education. Members of Delta Alpha Pi participate in activities designed to educate the community and society regarding the need to apply the principles of universal design in learning.

A few quick announcements for upcoming events!

Christmas Show Box Community Service: 11/20 by 3 pm!
Please drop off your shoeboxes in the RDS satellite Center in the boxes by the counter. Inductees if you would like to participate please e-mail Lauren at obrienln@rams.colostate.edu for more information
There will be a sign up sheet that you should sign once you drop off your box-- this way you can be awarded points (2 pts)
Attached is a of list items you can give remember we are focusing on adolescents

Police Collaboration: 11/18 4-6 pm in LSC328
The Student Diversity Program offices (coordinated by BAACC) will be hosting an event collaborating with the CSUPD to talk about student/ minority rights and to discuss issues that different minorities face. Terry Sculpting (DAPi Alumnus) and Rhondda Walker will be hosting a session in the RDS satellite office following the big discussion to talk specifically about the disabled community. Optional event worth 2 pts!

The final meeting for the semester! Inductees are encourage to come. Worth 1 pt!
