Our Masters of Public Health student, Emery (.ery), recently presented the project she has been working on during her program.

Her project focused on “a cross sectional analysis of the association between Neighborhood Deprivation Index (NDI) Rurality, and physical Activity levels in cancer survivors. This study aimed to identify how cancer survivors physical environment could be affecting their physical activity levels based on a score of the level of deprivation in their zip code. This study also aimed to identify if there was a correlation between NDI and Rurality, scored by Rural Urban Commuter Area Codes (RUCA) Codes.

The study identified that cancer survivors with higher neighborhood deprivation scores (more deprivation) showed lower rates of moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity. There was also a moderate positive correlation between NDI and Rurality indicating that cancer survivors with higher NDI scores (more deprivation) tend to reside in more rural areas“.

Everybody please help up in congratulating Emery on her amazing accomplishment! 🎉🥳
