Hypnosis and Health

How can hypnosis support a healthy body? Think about the term holistic. It means body, mind and spirit. For many centuries science has studied the body and the mind as separate parts of the machine, (your body). We are now understanding that the body and the mind do not function independent of one another. In fact, the subconscious mind controls the autonomic nervous system, which is to say all the automatic functions of the body. Without the subconscious mind all bodily functions would stop and there would be no life. The thoughts and beliefs stored in the subconscious mind have a direct effect on the physical body. Fear and anger are prime examples of survival emotions. These emotions maintain a fight or flight mode most of the time. In this state the body does not have a chance to rest and heal. Over time the body begins to breakdown, and physical symptoms or disease appear.

Hypnosis is a fast, easy way to take control of subconscious thoughts and emotions and reprogram them into supportive, empowering emotions and thoughts that allow the body to do what it does best – heal itself. Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that allows relaxation of the body and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. In hypnosis it is possible to communicate with the subconscious mind to learn what the body needs to support healing and well-being.

This is a great example of the use of medical hypnosis.

I had a client a few years ago that I helped manage the pain during this same procedure and it was very effective. His surgeon would not allow headphones or earbuds during the procedure as they had to maintain communication during the procedure so my client practiced self-hypnosis and was easily able to manage the pain.

Due to the need to maintain communication anesthesia is not used in this procedure, only a local anesthetic.

Wouldn't it be nice if more doctors used this simple non-invasive technique to help their patients?

Doctors carried out the deep brain stimulation procedure to cure the 73-year-old patient
