Why she donates:

"I donate platelets because it is an easy and rewarding way to support others in our community. I feel like there are very few opportunities to be anonymously generous to those in need. Blood donations provide second chances to those who need and deserve more time. An hour or two of my time may mean a lifetime for someone in our community. I'm grateful to not only be a donor but an employee of the Garth Englund Blood Centers (GEBC), where safety, connection, and donor appreciation are the top goals. GEBC provides a safe and fun environment where generosity is valued, interpersonal connections are made and donors are celebrated for their time, kindness, and generosity."

On December 17 last year, we marked an important milestone with the launch of our Low Titer Whole Blood (LTOWB) initiative. It’s been inspiring to reflect on the impact this program has already made on patient care.

The photos here are from our LTOWB celebration dinner in November, where we honored the donors and staff whose dedication made this initiative possible. As we look ahead, we’re excited to see this program continue to grow and help save even more lives.

Why he donates:

"I began donating platelets in 2012 and I have found it personally rewarding to support the health needs of the community, especially emergency needs so often associated with donated blood and platelets. This has become one of the ways that I give to the community and it "costs" me nothing since my platelets are naturally replaced soon after my donation. I have also found it simple to make this a regularly scheduled part of my life. Every two weeks on Friday morning I know what I will be doing.

I have also come to enjoy the community built by Garth Englund Blood Center. Their staff is friendly and personable. Over time you come to know them on a much more personal basis than just a ‘blood technician.’ You also come to recognize the other regular doners. It is great to see someone out in the community wearing a Garth Englund tee shirt and strike up a conversation."
