🔎 Myth vs. Fact: The “Bright Side” of Oral Health
April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and while it sounds like a "grown-up" topic, oral health habits start right here in our Pediatric Dental office! 🦷✨
At Toothzone, your child’s routine check-up includes more than just counting teeth 🦷. We’re also looking at gums, tongues, and cheeks to make sure everything is healthy and happy 😁👍🏼
🔔 Here are the facts every parent should know (AAPD-approved!):
🚫 MYTH: Children don't need oral cancer screenings.
✅ FACT: While rare in kids, the AAPD recognizes that pediatric dentists play a vital role in early diagnosis. During every exam, we perform a gentle "look and feel" check of the soft tissues to ensure everything is developing normally. Early detection is everything!
🚫 MYTH: Oral health is only about "sugar" and "cavities."
✅ FACT: It’s about the whole mouth! Lifestyle choices—like staying away from to***co and limiting UV exposure to the lips; are habits that start in the teen years. We’re here to help our ortho patients understand how a healthy lifestyle protects their beautiful new smiles.
🚫 MYTH: If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not a problem.
✅ FACT: Most early signs of tissue changes are painless. That’s why the "Two-Week Rule" is so important. If your child has a sore, red patch, or white spot that doesn’t go away after 14 days, give us a call!
