Today we are highlighting our wonderful OT, Liz Ampe! Here are some fun facts about Liz!
🔹Where did you go to OT school?
CSU
🔸How long have you been working as an occupational therapist?
20 years
🔹How long have you been working with My Heroes?
13 years
🔸What does being an occupational therapist mean to you?
I get to individualize each session to what is meaningful to that particular client. Incorporating a horse is internally motivating and a great way of building trust and relationships while incorporating regulating movement.
🔹Favorite horse to work with?
All the cute shorter ones, due to my height
🔸How do you describe occupational therapy to those who don’t know what it is?
OT has a lot of components you can address so it’s hard to capture everything in a brief description. It looks different for everyone but it is fostering independence in an individual’s daily life. For a child, it may be focusing on play based skills and for an adult more activities of daily living and self care. It’s the things you have to do on a daily basis plus the meaningful ones that bring you joy.
🔹Why did you want to become an occupational therapist?
I liked the variety of skills to address as well as work in various settings.
🔸If you could have any super power what super power would you choose?
I would love to teleport because I enjoy traveling and would get to see my distant friends and family on demand.
