I’ve been feeling heavy lately. Each time I see news of rising hate or violence being celebrated somewhere in the world, I notice my chest tighten and my thoughts race.

It’s becoming harder to stay calm, harder to trust the world around us.

I know I’m not alone in this. Our nervous systems are designed to pick up on fear and unrest—it’s how we survive. But in today’s climate, it often feels like we’re all running on constant alert.

For me, the practices I return to—breathing slowly, grounding in my body, connecting with loved ones—aren’t about ignoring what’s happening. They’re about giving my system just enough safety to keep moving forward with compassion.

I’m worried about where things are headed, but I also believe in our capacity to self-correct. If we each can find even small moments of regulation and peace, we can influence not just ourselves but the people we touch every day. And maybe, over time, that ripple of calm can grow into something much larger.

Early in my journey of helping people help themselves, I was drawn into powerful, personal stories.
One of the most impactful was my first real exposure to MS (Multiple Sclerosis). That experience shifted the way I saw health—and shaped me into a more holistic, mind-body-focused clinician.

On one end, I saw how the conventional medical world often offered little hope to people with MS.
But on the other, I met individuals living with MS who refused to give up—people who knew they still had so much to give, to experience, and to become. Their resilience was a turning point for me.

If you or someone you care about is living with a chronic or autoimmune condition, this talk might offer something meaningful. Hope. Insight. Or simply a new perspective.
