People ask me a lot:
“How can your work be so gentle, yet more impactful than traditional methods?”
“And how can something that involves talking about the mind work just as well for babies and animals?”

The answer is safety.

Whether you’re a baby, an animal, or an adult, pain and illness often come with a loss of feeling safe in your own body. When the nervous system feels threatened, it stays on high alert.

That’s why I work gently.

Gentle touch gives the brain and body the time and space to quiet the alarms, reorganize, and reintroduce symptom-free movement and sensation.

With adults, I can add explanation and awareness.
With babies and animals, words aren’t needed. Feeling secure is enough, and the rest follows naturally.
And often, while working with a child or pet, I’m also supporting the parents or owners. When they relax, that calm energy is passed on too.

Safety first. Healing follows.

As I walked into my office, it was dark and I noticed something on the floor that I knew didn’t belong.
My brain reacted instantly:

“This space is familiar. There shouldn’t be anything there.”

So the story started.
Fear. Tension. Alert mode.

Then I turned on the light.
It was just a leaf.
I laughed.

Nothing changed except my perception.
This is what often happens with ongoing pain.

Pain shows up where we “know” our body.
“There’s no reason for this.”
“Something must be wrong.”
“My body is turning against me.”

The brain fills in the gaps with fear and meaning.
And the nervous system stays stuck in protection.

Sometimes pain isn’t a damaged structure.
It’s a nervous system reacting to a story that hasn’t been updated yet.

Turn on the light.
Change the story.
The body can soften again.

“You mean it’s in my head?”
I hear this question a lot when we talk about neuroplastic symptoms.

Here’s the truth: all symptoms are processed in the brain.

That includes pain from tissue injury and symptoms driven by a sensitized nervous system.
Saying something is neuroplastic doesn’t mean it’s imaginary.

It means the brain learned a pattern — and learned patterns can be unlearned.

That’s not dismissal.
That’s opportunity.

I’ve been feeling heavy lately. Each time I see news of rising hate or violence being celebrated somewhere in the world, I notice my chest tighten and my thoughts race.

It’s becoming harder to stay calm, harder to trust the world around us.

I know I’m not alone in this. Our nervous systems are designed to pick up on fear and unrest—it’s how we survive. But in today’s climate, it often feels like we’re all running on constant alert.

For me, the practices I return to—breathing slowly, grounding in my body, connecting with loved ones—aren’t about ignoring what’s happening. They’re about giving my system just enough safety to keep moving forward with compassion.

I’m worried about where things are headed, but I also believe in our capacity to self-correct. If we each can find even small moments of regulation and peace, we can influence not just ourselves but the people we touch every day. And maybe, over time, that ripple of calm can grow into something much larger.
