Change your beliefs, change your life.
If it was easy, it wouldn’t even be a conversation, but the truth is that we see what we believe. Changing our beliefs doesn’t make terrible things in the world go away, but it helps us to see that’s not ALL there is.
If I believe, “there is good in the world,” I’m more likely to notice the helpers than if I believed “there is only bad in the world.” The good and the bad are both there, in varying proportions to one another, but the lens through which we see things determines what we are likely to engage with. Hope or despair, love or hate, reaching out or isolating.
Trauma distorts our perception to be more aware or threats, more easily triggered, on edge, hypervigilent, distrusting. We WERE harmed, harm DOES exist, though with this lens, we aren’t able to see that safety also exists, that there are people who can be trusted. We are biased toward the negative. It’s not our fault, but to free ourselves from this trap, we need to get help in changing our beliefs to we can access a more balanced and even positive, hopeful, and empowered view.
