You often hear and read "to teach is to touch the lives of children forever". Well, I beg to differ. In 30 years of teaching and working with teenagers, I have to say that it is I that has been forever influenced and shaped by 100's of students over the years. Often I have said, students keep me young at heart. How absolutely lucky am I to have developed so many positive relationships with students, student athletes, student assistants, and as an added bonus, their families as well. Not until my own children began playing sports did I truly understand the ferocity of parents supporting their kids, cheering for their kids, and going to bat for their kids. As an athletic trainer, I had the very unique good fortune of working side by side with students who were just beginning to formulate their plans for the future. Some migrated to athletic training simply as "something to do" after school to hang out with their friends. For some, this activity grew into an interest and eventually a career in health care. For Hailey Green, she was born to be a "nurturer"...a "Mother Hen" so to speak. So it did not take long to realize that she had found her niche in the Sports Medicine Program at FDHS and eventually in pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse. She had already completed the process to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. As several of her friends have said, Hailey did not have a mean bone in her body and always had a smile on her face. 12 consecutive seasons in the Sports Medicine Program - Hailey was very proud of that, as she should be. In sports terms, that equates to being a 3 season athlete for 4 straight years. She was always there, ready to serve others. In Hailey's memory I want to start a scholarship fund, to be given annually to a FDHS student pursuing a health care career. More details to come on that. For now, 2 thoughts prevail...please FOCUS your prayers on her family as well as the family of the gentleman who struck Hailey's car. Secondly, Hailey Green, THANK YOU for being one of those students who forever touched MY LIFE. FDHS Class of 2019. Love, "MrsA"
