No one can truly prepare for a loss of this magnitude. Please keep the family and friends of Joan Meyer in your thoughts and prayers. Today is challenging, and the weeks and months ahead will be equally tough. However, Joan would want us to continue smiling, and that’s exactly what we will do. Until we meet again, my friend.

The Marian Home was established in 1960 in the old Combelt Hotel at First Avenue North and Seventh Street, by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City. Sister Mary Leopoldine, a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Help of St. Louis Missouri, was the Administrator of the newly formed nursing facility.
The original Marian Home operated until 1974, when the office of Comprehensive Health Planning of Iowa approved the construction of a new facility. The 97 bed facility was approved by the board and requested the new structure be a "Diocesan Institution". A corporation was formed and the Bishop of the Diocese appointed a priest to take charge of construction. An "open house" was held April 25, 1976 and the Marian Home started to admit residents on May 26, 1976.
The Marian Home is an extension of Christ's mission of mercy. Christ's love for man was demonstrated by his healing of the sick; so the Catholic Home must serve all men and women in charity, regardless of race, creed or ethnic background.
In 1978, the Board of Directors saw a need to service people in another area of healthcare. Plans were drawn and construction was started on a twelve unit Independent Living Apartment complex, The Marian Village. The first phase of the apartment complex consisted of six single rooms, three 2 bedroom and three 1 bedroom apartments. In 1986, an additional seventeen apartments were opened for occupancy. The new addition consists of three 2 bedroom, nine 1 bedroom, three studio and 2 single room apartments.
Nursing services to the occupants is on an emergency nursing situation basis, with a variety of nursing procedures able to be set up. Meals are furnished to those interested. The residents of the Marian Village can take part in all activities and special events offered at the Marian Home. The apartment complex has a beautiful lounge and dining area for residents and family gatherings. All maintenance, utilities and house keeping services, except telephone are furnished to the residents. The two facilities are connected by an enclosed walk way.
Over the years, an ambulance entrance was built to provide our residents with shelter when leaving the facility for doctor visits and other various outings. An addition was added on the dining room, to make more spacious and comfortable seating for the residents.
In March of 2004 the Marian Home changed from a nursing facility to a Licensed Skilled Facility, accepting Medicare Residents.
In 2018 a total renovation of the existing care center facility and chapel and addition of 19 private rooms was completed.
