Judy Kay Dorothy, 72, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her home on November 17, 2025. Born on March 14, 1953, in Fort Dodge to Ruth and Patrick Derrig, Judy grew up rooted in the community that would remain her lifelong home. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1971, forming friendships and memories that stayed with her throughout her life.
Judy was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where she devoted time as a youth group leader. Her patient guidance, warm personality, and supportive presence left lasting impressions on the many young people she worked with over the years.
She later built a long and fulfilling career at Eyemart Optical, where she was appreciated for her reliability, compassion, and dedication to the customers she assisted every day. After retiring, she devoted her time and energy to volunteering with the Salvation Army, where her generosity and commitment to helping others made a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Patrick; her sister, Rachel Derrig; and her husband, Monte Dorothy. She is survived by her children, Tina and Troy Dorothy, and her five grandchildren, all of whom she adored beyond measure. Judy found her greatest happiness in the simple, quiet parts of life-caring for her beloved cats, tending to her garden, and spending cherished time with her grandchildren.
Her gentle presence, unwavering kindness, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. Judy's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, her friends, and the many lives she influenced through her work, her service, and her love.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home . Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior at the funeral home.
