Commander's Coin of Excellence
Eisenhower Army Medical Center’s Commander, Colonel Rose Freeman and Command Sergeant Major George Foster, Jr. recognize First Lieutenant Ethan Fleming and First Lieutenant Emma LaTour for their exceptional clinical expertise and decisive actions while performing Emergency Room duties.
1LT Fleming recognized the need for closer observation and increased oxygen requirements for a critically ill, immunosuppressed patient in the Emergency Room who exhibited signs of deterioration. After successfully placing two IV lines, he advocated effectively to the physician regarding the patient's worsening condition, leading to a timely admission. The nurse's swift actions and expertise were vital in ensuring the patient's safety and continuity of care.
1LT LaTour, assisted in the transfer of a critically ill patient diagnosed with an aortic dissection to the local Level 1 civilian hospital. She initiated critical IV medication and provided two hours of intense, hands-on patient care, ensuring the patient's stability and safety during the transfer process. Her swift and skilled intervention was instrumental in facilitating the timely delivery of life-saving care, exemplifying dedication to mission success and patient outcomes.
Both Fleming and LaTour are Medical-Surgical Nurses (66H), performing duties above and beyond their peers. They are excelling in the temporary role of Emergency Room Nurses (66T) and embody the spirit of trauma nurses.
