Ambient Listening: Smarter Tools. Better Care

Providers across the Military Health System will soon use a new voice recognition technology that helps them focus more on direct patient care while improving the patient and provider experience. Ambient listening technology will be rolled out in phases at military hospitals and clinics and will be available worldwide by March 2026.

How it works
Ambient listening acts like a private assistant, securely capturing the conversation between patients and providers, converting it into text and organizing the important medical details into a draft clinical note for the provider to review before submitting to the patient's electronic health record. Patients must provide verbal consent before a provider can use ambient listening technology during medical appointments.

What does this mean for providers?
Because the technology is doing the note taking in the background, providers will be able to engage more directly with patients, resulting in a more personalized experience and decreased administrative burden on staff.

What does this mean for patients?
Thanks to ambient listening, providers can spend more direct time with patients and less time on a computer screen. This leads to improved engagement and a greater sense of connection during the appointment. And just like with all medical appointments, patient health information is protected and secure.

The Defense Health Agency is committed to leveraging new tools and technologies to improve patient-provider care experience.

Focused on care. Powered by technology.

United States Army Nurse Corps 125th Birthday Celebration

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Yoga and Guided Meditation, and a celebration ceremony with the Live Oak Chapter of the Georgia Nursing Honor Guard helped showcase the strength, flexibility and solidarity of Army Nurses at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

The story of the Army Nurse Corps is one of pride, heroism and profound empathy. It is in the skilled hands that treat the wounded, and the comforting presence that eases a Soldier's fear.

As we mark this 125th anniversary, we thank every Army Nurse past and present, their legacy of service and compassion is an inspiration.
