Black balloons serve as a symbol of remembrance for those who are no longer with us and a reminder of the families, friends, and communities impacted by this disease.

At The Beachcomber Recovery Center, we stand with those grieving, those fighting for recovery, and those working every day to bring hope and healing to others.

We asked our alumni a simple question:

“If you could go back and tell yourself one thing on your first day of recovery, what would it be?”

And the answers were powerful.

• “Trust the process. It works.”
• “Trust people and don’t overthink everything.”
• “Take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth.”
• “It only gets better from here.”
• “Slow down and enjoy the ride.”
• “You’re going to recover in mind, body, and soul.”

Different journeys. Different stories.
But one message keeps showing up again and again:

At The Beachcomber, recovery doesn’t end when treatment does.

Our alumni events are a reminder that healing is ongoing, and no one has to do it alone. Seeing so many familiar faces come back together tonight, sharing stories, laughter, and encouragement, is what community is all about.

For nearly 50 years, Beachcomber has remained family-owned and family-centered, and that commitment extends far beyond discharge day. Alumni events help strengthen connection, accountability, and fellowship, three things that are essential for long-term recovery.

Dr. Vladislava Culina is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist and Addiction Medicine specialist who has been a cornerstone of Beachcomber Recovery since 2018. As Medical Director, she oversees all medical aspects of mental health and substance use treatment, ensuring every level of care is grounded in evidence-based practices, safety, and compassion.

From residential treatment to HIOP and IOP programs, Dr. Culina has played a key role in the growth and leadership of Beachcomber’s continuum of care, guiding clinical teams, supporting complex cases, and upholding the highest standards of treatment.

Beyond her work as a physician, Dr. Culina values creativity, connection, and balance, enjoying cooking traditional meals, painting, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family.

Her leadership reflects what Beachcomber stands for: accountability, empathy, and a deep commitment to helping individuals and families build lasting recovery. For over 50 years, Beachcomber Recovery has been proud to serve those seeking hope and healing, and leaders like Dr. Culina make that mission possible. 🫶
