What to Expect During a Physical

It’s important to get an update on your child’s overall health condition before sending them off to school, sports, or camp. If they have any unusual health risks, such as abnormal heartbeats or high risk of injury, learning of these ahead of time will allow you and the school to take precautions to prevent a serious injury or illness.

During a typical physical, our medical professionals will check the following:
• Blood pressure, Heart rate & Respiration rate
• Your family’s medical history
• Cognitive abilities
• Skin health
• Lung capacity
• Reflexes
• Mobility

Many of these checks do not take too long. Depending on your child’s age and when they had their last physical, the doctor may also order a blood test and update your vaccinations. Other tests may be suggested depending on the child’s age, medical history, and your family’s medical history.

Make sure your child’s required immunizations are up to date. If you are not sure, you can check with your healthcare provider or the Florida Department of Health-Broward at (954) 467-4700. Parents may obtain medical exemptions from their healthcare provider or a religious exemption from the Florida Department of Health Broward.
