For patients who have high blood pressure, rhythm problems (palpitations), or who have severe blockages in the blood vessels to their heart, these decongestants have the potential to cause problems. Decongestants can raise blood pressure or stimulate fast heart rhythms. Anyone with heart conditions or high blood pressure, before taking medications that include phenylephrine or pseudoephedrine, should consult their doctor to see if they can safely take such medicines.
Therefore, advertised medicines such as Allegra, Zyrtec, or Claritin should be safe for most patients with heart disease and allergies; however, Allegra-D, Zyrtec-D, and Claritin-D could cause problems for patients with allergies and heart disease.

If you have any of these signs, call 911 and get to a hospital right away.
1. Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
2. Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
3. Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
4. Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, or lightheadedness.
5. As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain.

Because the exact cause of most congenital heart defects is unknown, it may not be possible to prevent these conditions. If you have a high risk of giving birth to a child with a congenital heart defect, genetic testing and screening may be done during pregnancy.
There are some things you can do that might reduce your child's overall risk of birth defects such as:
• Get proper prenatal care.
• Take a multivitamin with folic acid.
• Don't drink or smoke.
• Get the rubella (German measles) vaccine.
• Control your blood sugar.
• manage chronic health conditions.
• Avoid harmful substances.
• Check with your doctor before taking any medications.

An enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) isn't a disease, but rather a sign of another condition.
An enlarged heart may be the result of short-term stress on the body, such as pregnancy, or a medical condition, such as the weakening of the heart muscle, coronary artery disease, heart valve problems, or abnormal heart rhythms.
Certain conditions may cause the heart muscle to become thicker or cause one of the chambers of the heart to dilate, making the heart larger. Depending on the condition, an enlarged heart may be temporary or permanent.
An enlarged heart may be treatable by correcting the cause. Treatment for an enlarged heart can include medications, medical procedures, or surgery.

Mother's Day in the United States is an annual holiday celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Mother's Day recognizes mothers, motherhood, and maternal bonds in general, as well as the positive contributions that they make to society. It was established by Anna Jarvis, with the first official Mother's Day celebrated through a service of worship at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908. Popular observances include holiday cards and gift-giving, churchgoing often accompanied by the distribution of carnations, and family dinners.

Did you know this?
Cardiac primary tumors, those originating in the heart itself, are extremely rare. In published autopsy series, the high-end incidence of such tumors is about one-quarter of one percent. The majority of diagnosed cardiac tumors are benign. In adults, a somewhat mushy, gelatinous type of tumor called a myxoma is the most common; in infants and children, rhabdomyoma predominates, typically associated with the syndrome tuberous sclerosis.

Cardiac rehabilitation, also called cardiac rehab, is a customized outpatient program of exercise and education. The program is designed to help you improve your health and recover from a heart attack, other forms of heart disease, or surgery to treat heart disease.
Cardiac rehabilitation often involves exercise training, emotional support, and education about lifestyle changes to reduce your heart disease risk, such as eating a heart-healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and quitting smoking.
The goals of cardiac rehabilitation include establishing a plan to help you regain strength, prevent your condition from worsening, reduce your risk of future heart problems, and improve your health and quality of life.

If you're living with heart failure, you know that physical activity may leave you feeling fatigued or short of breath. If exercise makes you feel winded, you might wonder — is it safe to have s*x?
S*x is typically a moderate form of exercise — it generally falls into the same activity level as climbing two or three flights of stairs. So it's not uncommon for those with heart failure to worry that having s*x might further harm the heart, especially after surgery or a procedure. Also, heart failure medications may reduce the s*x drive or cause unpleasant s*xual side effects. More than half of people with heart failure say they are having a lot less s*x or none at all due to their heart health. A little more than 3 in 10 report problems with s*xual performance.
Remaining s*xually active is important for maintaining a healthy quality of life and staying connected to your partner. How do you do that with heart failure? Follow your cardiac rehabilitation plan.
The American Heart Association also says that s*x rarely causes heart attacks, but it's a good idea to skip s*x until your doctor says your heart condition is stable. If you have any s*xual difficulties, don't be shy about talking to your doctor. The American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology recommend that everyone with the disease be screened for s*xual problems and offered counseling as part of their rehabilitation.

Cardiac asthma is not a form of asthma. It's a type of coughing or wheezing that occurs with left heart failure. Depending on how severe the symptoms are, this wheezing can be a medical emergency.
Heart failure can cause fluid to build up in the lungs (pulmonary edema) and in and around the airways. This can cause shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing similar to the signs and symptoms of asthma.
True asthma is a chronic condition caused by inflammation of the airways, which can narrow them, leading to breathing difficulties. True asthma has nothing to do with fluid in the lungs or heart disease.
The distinction is important because treatments for asthma and heart failure are different. Treatments for heart failure can help improve the symptoms of both heart failure and cardiac asthma. Overusing treatments for true asthma, such as rescue inhalers, could be harmful and potentially lead to a worsening of symptoms.
