Perimenopause is something millions of women experience, yet it remains one of the least discussed phases of a woman’s life. For too long, women have been told this is just part of getting older — and left to figure it out alone.

Holy Cross Health hosted a free community viewing party of The (M) Factor 2: Before the Pause – Perimenopause to ensure that women in our South Florida community no longer have to navigate this phase without answers.

Help us keep this conversation going– share this with someone who might need it.

At 70 years old, Jeff Kimmel was doing what he loves, working part time at Dammiano's Cafe & Bistro on Las Olas, when faith walked through the door.

A chance conversation with Nadia Abelhad, MD, cardiologist with Holy Cross Medical Group, led to a visit that saved his life. Working alongside electrophysiologist Alexandra Sanchez, MD, the team provided timely, life-saving care that made all the difference.

Jeff said, “I like to reference the Yiddish word ‘bashert,’ which means destiny. I believe it was destiny that led me to that conversation with Dr. Abelhad in the coffee shop that ultimately saved my life.”

For someone living with COPD or chronic lung disease, getting through the day can feel like a negotiation with your own body.

This Pulmonary Rehab Week, we celebrated the remarkable patients of the Catherine Yardley Comprehensive Pulmonary Center — people who chose to fight for a better quality of life. We were grateful to mark that moment alongside generous supporter Herbert Yardley, whose commitment makes this program possible.

We’re also proud to have received an official proclamation from Mayor Dean Trantalis and the City of Fort Lauderdale recognizing Holy Cross Health’s advocacy for equitable access to pulmonary care.

On March 2, the Holy Cross Health Foundation welcomed many of our generous supporters whose compassion makes care possible for our patients every day. Since our last Evening of Gratitude, more than $20 million has been raised through philanthropy, fueling innovations, expanding programs and strengthening the care we deliver at Holy Cross Health.

This year, we celebrated Keith Koenig as our Remarkable Philanthropy Champion, honoring the dedication and leadership that inspires others to give. Through philanthropy, we are building excellence together and looking forward to serving our community for another 70 years and beyond.

Today we celebrate the women who heal— physicians, nurses and caregivers whose compassion and dedication make a difference for our patients every day.

We also honor the Sisters of Mercy who stepped forward to care for this community when the need was great, laying the foundation for the Mission that continues today.

Happy International Women’s Day!

This Sunday, March 8 is International Women’s Day. Our Mission Leader, Mary Carter Waren, reflects on the remarkable women who shaped Holy Cross Health, from the Sisters of Mercy who stepped forward when care was needed most, to the women carrying that legacy today. Their dedication reminds us that every act of care leaves a lasting impact. 💙
