Yesterday, in partnership with the Fort Lee Health Department and Youth Council of Fort Lee, teen members of Fort Lee VAC joined fellow high school juniors and seniors for an interactive discussion on mental wellbeing. Workshops focused on the art of the hard no, managing impulsive decisions, helping a friend without being their therapist, and practicing digital empathy. We are proud of our members for actively engaging in their groups, contributing thoughtful perspectives, and helping create a space where peers felt heard and supported.

Earlier today, in partnership with the Fort Lee Health Department, Fort Lee VAC EMT Petrosyan met with members of the community to discuss the File of Life.

The File of Life is a medical information sheet stored in an easy-to-find place in your home to help EMS quickly understand your health history (medical conditions, medications, allergies, and emergency contact). It’s a small step that can make a big difference during an emergency, especially if you or those around you are unable to provide such information.

Interested residents are encouraged to fill out the request form on our site: www.fortleevac.org/fileoflife-request-form

The Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps held its Annual Installation of Officers dinner on Saturday evening. The Corps presented scholarships to two very dedicated EMTs.

The Heinz Meis Scholarship Award was presented to
June Kim and the Thomas Cooney Scholarship Award was given to Melissa Donmez.

Officer Christian Santiago of the Fort Lee Police Department was also recognized for his exemplary professionalism, swift response, and decisive actions on the night on November 24, 2025. Officer Santiago was instrumental in saving the life of a baby born at 25 weeks, with the assistance of EMTs Jeff Bernard, Justin Park, Seung Nam and Gabriel Llopiz.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated men and women of the Ambulance Corps and the Police Department for their service to our community. Day in and day out, often behind the scenes and in challenging moments, you put the safety, health and well-being of our residents above all else.

You exemplify what it means to serve with heart and honor!

Today, Mayor Sokolich swore in the 2026 Chiefs of the Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc.
This marks the 8th year Chief Diran Jebejian and Deputy Chief Steve Curry will lead together.

Chief Jebejian brings 30 years of service to the Corps, while Deputy Chief Curry brings 25 years with the Corps—plus an incredible 49 years serving with the Fort Lee Volunteer Fire Department. We couldn’t ask for two more dedicated, experienced, and committed leaders to guide our Ambulance Corps. Thank you for your continued service to Fort Lee and for always answering the call.

The storm has passed — now comes the hard part: cleanup and clearing out.

Shoveling snow can be physically demanding and significantly increases the risk of cardiac arrest, especially during heavy or wet snow.

Tips from the Chief of the Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corps:

✔️Take frequent breaks
✔️Pace yourself — don’t rush
✔️Push snow when possible
instead of lifting
✔️Stop immediately if you feel
chest pain, shortness of breath,
fatigue, nausea or dizziness

Your safety comes first. Please don’t overexert yourself, and check on neighbors who may need help. If you need medical assistance, please dial 9-1-1 immediately.

Let’s recover safely, Fort Lee.
