The 111th Quartermaster Company has been conducting rail and air load training at Fort Lee, VA. On the rail side, Soldiers managed to safely utilize permanent and temporary loading ramps to successfully load HMMWVs, LHSs, and LMTVs onto different types of rail cars. Soldiers learned how to determine the proper number of 3/8" or 1/2" chains to restrain vehicles and tied down unit equipment accordingly. Rail cars aren't much wider than our trucks, so Soldiers were diligent with hand and arm signals to carefully ground guide vehicles onto and across the rail cars. On the air side, Soldiers learned how to read an air load plan and general information about creating an air load plan. Soldiers weighed and marked center of balance on unit vehicles and then ground guided them into a C-17 airframe IAW a supplied air load plan. Soldiers calculated the proper number of MB-1 and MB-2 tie-down devices to apply to each vehicle and secured them in the aircraft accordingly. 111th QM CO remains ready to rapidly deploy in support of our assigned missions.
