Partners are often worried about hiring a doula - they can be afraid that a doula may replace them during labor and birth, “stealing” this special moment from them.
This fear is perfectly understandable, but far from reality. A doula doesn’t replace a partner; she supports him as much as she supports the mother-to-be. Every spouse knows his wife better than the doula will, therefore they are irreplaceable. A doula works around the couple, filling the gaps and needs. A doula can support a mother with counter-pressure or a foot massage while her spouse is breathing with her and encouraging her. A doula can make sure that a spouse gets a sandwich or a nap without worrying about his wife being alone for a few minutes. A doula can suggest a few positions the mother-to-be and her partner can try together, like swinging slowly. A doula doesn’t replace a partner, she helps him be the best support he can be!

Did you know that focused breathing can be a powerful tool during labor and birth?
Learning breathing techniques can help you stay calm, focused, and centered as you bring your baby into the world. Here are some tips to help you get started with breathing for birth:

1. Practice deep breathing exercises regularly during your pregnancy. This will help you become more comfortable with the technique and make it easier to use during labor.

2. Experiment with different breathing techniques to find what works best for you. Some women find that slow, deep breathing is most effective, while others prefer quicker, shallower breaths.

3. During labor, try to keep your breathing steady and rhythmic.
Focus on inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly, and try to avoid holding your breath or
hyperventilating.

4. Enlist the support of your partner or doula. Having someone to remind you to breathe and guide you through the process can be incredibly helpful. Remember, breathing is just one of the many tools you have at your disposal during labor and birth. Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques and find what works best for you. With practice and preparation, you can feel confident and empowered as you bring your baby into the world.

Hello everyone, here is a quick introduction: my name is Anne-Laure, and I am a new Labor Doula. I am a mother of two. My passion for birth work started before i gave birth to my second child.
While I was pregnant with my daughter, a friend told me that she wanted to give birth to her child naturally, without an epidural. At first, I didn't understand. Why would she pass on the best pain reliever that could help during childbirth? I started to investigate, read about birth mechanisms, medical interventions and maternal empowerment.
I quickly realized that giving birth could be a real moment of grace for a mother, when she discovers her full power and her ability to literally give life to a new human being. I was no longer seeing birth as a hard and painful moment to go through before being able to hold my newborn, but rather as a gritty, beautiful, exhausting and stunning self-revelation for mothers.
I am not saying that if a mother gets an epidural, she misses her chance. I think that any mother can have an exceptional birth experience whether she has a home-birth, an epidural, or even an emergency C-section, as long as she feels empowered and supported. And this is now my job, it is my calling: to help support and empower you for your baby's birth.
