Eccentric pull-ups are a great way to build the strength, confidence, and muscle foundation needed for a full pull-up.

Start at the top with your chest to the bar, then lower down slowly and under control. Reset each rep.

Keep your shoulders packed down and back the entire time.

This variation is a little more challenging with the bar set lower, requiring the knees to come up toward the chest, which also trains the abs and hip flexors.

Shout out to Rob!

Rob had never trained before walking into Catalyst. This month marks his two-year anniversary, and the results are undeniable. In all the years of coaching, this is something you rarely see. Brand new to the gym and he just benched 285 pounds last week. That’s a ridiculous PR.

But what really stands out isn’t just the strength. Rob has been consistent since day one. He fell in love with the routine and with what training does for him outside the gym. He shows up as his best self at work, with his family, and with the people around him.

On top of that, he’s a great friend and one of the most positive people to be around.

We love you, Rob. We’re proud of you.

Don’t be afraid of strength training. Be more afraid of what happens if you don’t.

Strength training helps combat many of the natural effects of aging, including muscle loss, decreased bone density, joint stiffness, reduced mobility, increased fall risk, and loss of independence. It also supports hormone health and metabolic function.

Start by learning to move pain free with good form. Then gradually add intensity over time.

When done correctly, strength training 2 to 3 times per week supports a longer, healthier, more capable life.

Build strength. Move pain free.
Fitness is freedom. It’s the ability to live life on your own terms without being limited by your physical ability.
