In your gut resides your 2nd brain (it's really your 1st) so this makes sense to me!
1. The gut brain axis is a communication between your gut, your brain, + your nervous system. The gut is our second brain + it’s health impacts how our brain functions.
2. Our nervous system impacts our thoughts, how we interact with people, + even the way we interpret social cues.
3. If we were raised in homes with consistent conflict, we can struggle to understand facial expressions or social cues because brains sole focus was processing danger— not neutral expressions.
4. Unresolved trauma can cause the nervous system to perceive neutral facial expressions on others as aggressive, or hostile.
5. Chronic inflammation is linked to: depression, anxiety, + various other mental health issues.
6. Food (nutritional therapy) is important for healing the gut + creating mental wellness.
7. Bacteria that lines the gut wall can influence our mood + behavior. Gut dysbiosis (or imbalance of bacteria) can come from: stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, + loneliness.
8. Due to the connection between the microbiome + depression, researchers are now looking to f***l transplants to heal treatment resistant depression (more than one third of patients do not respond to current depression treatment)
