Teenagers do not always say what is wrong.
Instead, they show it.

The attitude, the silence, the anger, the door slamming, the “I do not care” - it is often not defiance. It is frustration, anxiety, shame, pressure, or feeling completely misunderstood.

Many young people do not have the words to explain what is going on inside them. So it comes out in behaviour that adults react to, punish, or shut down. And that is where the real need gets missed.

Behind most “difficult” teen behaviour is something deeper - fear of rejection, low self-esteem, bullying, identity struggles, or feeling out of control. When we only focus on what we see, we risk pushing them further away.

If we want teenagers to open up, we need to look beyond the behaviour and ask what is really going on underneath.
