Holidays can be exciting—but also overwhelming for kids! Here are 3 strategies to help your child manage holiday stress, from Amy Strom, a Registered Play Therapist:

1️⃣ Calm their body & mind – Try deep breathing, holding ice, or using a fidget toy to self-soothe.

2️⃣ Move it out – Go for a nature walk, jump rope, or have a family dance party to release extra energy.

3️⃣ Create & connect – Encourage drawing, building with blocks, or talking with a trusted adult to express feelings safely.

Small, mindful moments of play can make the season a little calmer and a lot more joyful 🤩

In Florida, art therapists don’t yet have title protection, which means anyone can call themselves an “Art Therapist” without the proper education or credentials. This can be confusing for the public and even harmful for those seeking genuine therapeutic support.

For over a decade, Leeanna has served clients across SWFL as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR). Her continued pursuit of board certification (ATR-BC) demonstrates her dedication to maintaining the highest standard of care for her clients, students, and community. ✨

Brush: “I’ll take forever to clean…”
Me: “I literally just wanted to paint!” 🎨

Even the art materials have something to teach us.
Setting up your space, making a mess, cleaning it up…it’s all part of the creative ritual.

I used to forget to wash my brushes, leaving them to harden and dry with paint.

Now I actually enjoy the slow rhythm of rinsing their bristles. It’s a quiet act of care. My brushes are my tools, and tending to them reminds me to tend to myself.

I love watching clients discover their own lessons through their materials. Each one mirrors something different (patience, flexibility, surrender) and a good art therapist helps bring that meaning to light.

What have your materials taught you lately? ✨

Web of Lies 🕸️ Leeanna leads biweekly art therapy groups at providing group sessions to adults recovering from addiction 🕷️

Each strand on the web represents a lie you’ve told in your active addiction- and each client’s web tells a story!

Reflecting on the darker parts of yourself is hard, but crucial to gaining awareness and understanding on your healing journey. 🖤

Happy Halloween! 🎃
