Great hearing Arnold Schwarzenegger speak today in his role as Chief Movement Officer for Zimmer Biomet. His message resonated strongly from an orthopedic perspective: movement is medicine.

He spoke about overcoming failure, staying committed to a clear vision, and the power of teamwork. Just as important was his focus on prevention — educating people on protecting their joints, avoiding injury, and taking ownership of their health.

A great reminder that keeping people moving is one of the most powerful things we can do in medicine!

I'm at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meeting in New Orleans this week. Today, I attended "Future of Orthopedics". I was fortunate to hear some great speeches from the CEOs of 4 of the largest medical technology manufacturers: Zimmer Biomet, DePuy Synthes, Smith+Nephew and Stryker Orthopaedic Instruments.

I am proud to welcome Dr. Luciano Ramires, M.D., as the new Ortho Florida Reconstruction Fellow with the Institute for Mobility and Longevity (IML) at Gardner Orthopedics in Fort Myers, Florida.

We proudly train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons through the Ortho-Florida Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, in partnership with the Institute for Mobility & Longevity. An orthopedic fellow is a board-certified or board-eligible surgeon who has already completed orthopedic residency and now dedicates a focused year to mastering complex hip and knee replacement techniques.

For our patients, this means direct access to advanced surgical approaches, the latest implant technologies, and a team committed to continuous learning and excellence in care.

Dr. Ramires is an orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in sports medicine and joint reconstruction. Originally from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, he spent more than two decades caring for athletes — including serving as team physician for a FIFA Club World Cup Champion soccer team — before continuing his advanced fellowship training in the U.S.

He’s passionate about helping patients move better and live longer, reflecting IML’s mission to support lifelong mobility and wellness. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ramires enjoys tennis, soccer, beach tennis, Brazilian barbecue, and time with family by the ocean. 🌊
