I am proud to welcome Dr. Luciano Ramires, M.D., as the new Ortho Florida Reconstruction Fellow with the Institute for Mobility and Longevity (IML) at Gardner Orthopedics in Fort Myers, Florida.

We proudly train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons through the Ortho-Florida Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, in partnership with the Institute for Mobility & Longevity. An orthopedic fellow is a board-certified or board-eligible surgeon who has already completed orthopedic residency and now dedicates a focused year to mastering complex hip and knee replacement techniques.

For our patients, this means direct access to advanced surgical approaches, the latest implant technologies, and a team committed to continuous learning and excellence in care.

📢We’re excited to welcome Dr. Luciano Ramires, M.D., to the Institute for Mobility and Longevity family as the Ortho Florida Reconstruction Fellow at Gardner Orthopedics in Fort Myers!

Dr. Ramires is an orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in sports medicine and joint reconstruction. Originally from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, he spent more than two decades caring for athletes — including serving as team physician for a FIFA Club World Cup Champion soccer team — before continuing his advanced fellowship training in the U.S.

He’s passionate about helping patients move better and live longer, reflecting IML’s mission to support lifelong mobility and wellness. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ramires enjoys tennis, soccer, beach tennis, Brazilian barbecue, and time with family by the ocean. 🌊

I’m proud to announce that I have joined the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital team in Tampa as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee.

Bringing advanced training from Mass General Hospital in the Harvard system, I will help with reducing wait times, improving efficiency, and expanding access to complex procedures such as revision arthroplasty and prosthetic joint infections.

Key initiatives I’m leading include:
• Building collaboration among Florida VA hospitals to strengthen in-system specialty care
• Introducing smart implant technology to monitor recovery remotely
• Bringing advanced surgical instrumentation from Shukla Medical in St. Petersburg
• Leveraging Tampa VA’s state-of-the-art rehab facilities to help veterans recover faster
• Working with the FIVE Labs center for our residency program.

I am deeply inspired by the team-based, patient-centered culture at the Tampa VA and look forward to advancing orthopedic care for those who served.
