Thanks to the gifted hands and brain of Dr. Tomas, I am a new man. On March 21, 2023, I underwent non-mesh left inguinal hernia repair surgery. I am now slightly over one month beyond surgery and have a dramatic improvement in quality of life. My hernia journey. Several years ago, I was doing stretching exercises that were close to doing ballet splits. Bad idea at age 66. Felt a cold knife stabbing me in the groin region. Eventually went to a doctor who referred me to a surgeon who proclaimed that I needed mesh surgery. I researched mesh surgery and found too many adverse reactions to consider this an improvement. I could go from bad to worse. Spent years trying to reverse my hernia rupture through non-surgical methods. Nothing worked. After several relapses, which would make be bed bound for days with exquisite pain if upright, I determined that I needed to do something. Natural healing was not working. Research pointed me to Dr. Robert Tomas in Ft. Myers, FL, one of the most experienced surgeons in the world at non-mesh surgery, trained by the internationally respected Dr. Desarda (see amazon book) An expensive and extensive trip from San Diego to Ft. Myers, FL brought me to the UFirst clinic. Was impressed with the team, including Debra, April, Amber, Esteban, and others. All cordial and professional. Day one: see the doctor with EKG, blood test. Day two: surgery. Two hours after surgery (IV sedation, no intubation) I was walking. The outpatient surgical suite (because I was over 65 years) had an extraordinary team of professionals. Their pain management program (high dose ibuprofen, lidocaine, arnica, and ice packs) was extremely effective. Never lost any sleep over pain. Day four: post op exam by doctor. Day six: flew home. Now that Dr. Tomas has rearranged my internal organs where they need to be. Previously, my colon was invading the sc***um and crowding out the testicles. Not a good situation. Odds for an adverse reaction from a foreign substance (mesh). Zero. Odds for a recurrence. Less than one percent. I am upright and out of pain for the first time in years. My only regret is that I did not have this procedure done years ago. Would have saved me unnecessary pain. I am ecstatic.
