Today we recognize World Spay Day, a reminder that spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to protect pets and strengthen our community.

Spaying and neutering doesn’t just reduce overpopulation. It also helps protect pets from certain health issues and lowers the risk of some cancers, giving pets longer, healthier lives.

In 2025 alone, our team performed 10,849 spay and neuter surgeries. That’s 10,849 animals protected and thousands of potential litters prevented.

Prevention saves lives. Prevention reduces shelter intake. Prevention matters.

Thank you to our veterinary team and to everyone in our community who chooses to be part of the solution. 💜🐾

This one feels extra special. 💛

Last week, Bonnie Pearson painted the most beautiful portrait of our longest-term resident, Champ. After 291 days of waiting, hoping, and being the very best boy, Champ was adopted TODAY and he went home with his painting.

We love seeing our community wrap their arms around our shelter pets, and this was such a full-circle moment. Thank you, Bonnie Pearson, for capturing Champ so perfectly. Congratulations to Champ and his new family on their happily ever after. 🏡🐾

It was a busy weekend here at the shelter. 🐾

Several sweet pets packed their bags and headed home with their new families, and we’re so grateful for every adopter who chose to give them a second chance. Each adoption opens up space for another animal in need.

And if you’ve been thinking about it… this is your reminder. Our Love Is Looking for You adoption special runs through the end of February: all dogs and cats over 5 months old have 1/2 price adoption fees.

There are so many great pets waiting to meet you. 💕

🚨 HELP US STOCK OUR FOSTER HOMES 🚨

Kitten season may get all the attention… but puppy season is here too — and we are flying through puppy pads and wire dog crates.

Our foster homes rely on puppy pads daily for young puppies who are still learning the ropes. These little ones go through them quickly, and right now our supply is running low.

We are also in need of wire dog crates for both puppies and adult dogs. Crates provide safe spaces for decompression, help with potty training, and allow fosters to properly separate and manage animals when needed. They are an essential tool in keeping both pets and people safe — and we can always use more.

If you’re able to help, donating puppy pads and/or wire crates directly to our foster program makes an immediate impact. Every item helps keep foster homes stocked, organized, and ready to say “yes” to the next dog in need.

You can send items from our Amazon or Chewy wish lists, or drop off donations at the shelter.

Thank you for always stepping up for our most vulnerable animals. We truly could not do this without you. 💛

Pets of the Week: Meet Rylo & Sunny! 🐾

Rylo is a 1-year-old German Shepherd–Terrier mix who’s bursting with energy, personality, and nonstop enthusiasm for life. This 70-pound goofball loves to run, play, explore, and be part of all the action. He would thrive in an active home that can keep up with his adventurous spirit and give him plenty of exercise, structure, and fun. 🐶

Sunny is an 8-year-old black cat with a heart full of love and the sweetest, gentlest soul. Though he is mostly blind and only sees shadows, Sunny gets around just fine and doesn’t let it slow him down. He enjoys calm companionship, soft pets, and kind voices. As a Silver Paws VIP–eligible kitty, he would do best in a quiet, stable home where he can feel safe and confident. 🐱

Sunny is ready for a compassionate family who will cherish him for the special boy he is, and Rylo is ready for an adventure buddy to match his energy.
