Through expert guidance and compassionate care, Paula found strength in her journey. Today, she’s cancer free.

“I would wish and hope that everyone had a Lee Health in their area to help them get through this stage, or get through every stage of this disease, because it's not easy. Everyone needs a Lee Health — compassionate, friendly, honest and open,” Paula shared.

This October, Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children campaign is helping make hospital stays a little less scary at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.

Meet Emily McLellan, a Certified Child Life Specialist in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Emily helps children and families cope with serious illness through play, education, and emotional support — turning fear into comfort and care.

Every costume, decoration, and donation at Spirit Halloween helps fund our Child Life Program, so specialists like Emily can keep bringing smiles to young patients when they need it most.

One in eight women will face breast cancer in her lifetime. For many, treatment includes a mastectomy — but thanks to advances in reconstruction, healing can begin right away.

At Lee Health, Dr. Spencer Michalke partners with breast cancer surgeons so patients can begin reconstruction immediately after surgery. With advanced techniques and microsurgery, patients achieve natural results and regain confidence, hope, and a sense of wholeness.

This life-changing care is made possible by our generous community. During Hopetober, your gift helps ensure patients have access to compassionate, quality care close to home.

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and at Lee Health Cancer Institute, we dedicate Hopetober to raising awareness and support for breast cancer patients and their families. Hopetober is more than pink ribbons. It’s about ensuring patients have access to exceptional treatment close to home, raising awareness around the need cancer patients face, and reminding our community that no one should face cancer alone.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Lee Health Cancer Institute is able to offer comprehensive care, resources, education, and support programs that replace fear with hope.
