As the licensed Controlled Substance Prescriber (for the Treatment of Chronic Non-malignant Pain), we are not only saddened by this news but we are also concerned. Please talk to your children about the risks the gummies or other edibles with THC poses to their health and even lives. Please remind children not to consume any gummy candy or similar items without a parent or guardian's permission. Please keep your CDBG and THC products in a safe place in the same way as you would store your medicine. Children, especially under five, are mistaking ma*****na edibles, like gummies, for candy.
Signs of THC ingestion by children include vomiting, confusion, drowsiness, loss of coordination and being unsteady on their feet. Severe symptoms include slowed breathing, seizure and coma.
Florida law does not restrict access to the Florida Medical Ma*****na Use Program based on age. However, Florida law has specific requirements for the medical use of ma*****na by minors. Only a qualified physician must determine that the medical use of ma*****na would likely outweigh the potential health risks for all patients. If the patient is younger than 18 years of age a second physician must concur with this determination and such concurrence must be documented in the patientβs medical record.
Officials confirmed that the school administration has identified the person responsible for distributing the gummies to the students.
Emergency crews were called to Indiantown Middle School on Wednesday after three students reported feeling unwell after eating THC-infused gummies.
