May is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month. Osteoporosis causes 2 million bone fractures every year. This devastating disease affects 4 out of 5 women as well as many men. Fortunately it can be detected and treated with a bone density exam. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends testing at age 65 and older, if you break a bone after age 50, if you are a woman of menopausal age with risk factors, if you are a postmenopausal woman under age 65 with risk factors or if you are a man age 50-69 with risk factors. You can learn about these risk factors and more at WWW.NOF.ORG
