We were honored to attend the Purple Heart ceremony for Senior Sergeant Erik Levasseur of the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

It meant so much to our HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital team to be there and stand alongside Sgt. Levasseur as he received this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to have played a role in his recovery and care.

His courage, strength, and dedication to serving our community continue to inspire us every day.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support those who serve and protect.

Sgt. Levasseur….After 37 days…and multiple surgeries….

Yesterday was the moment we’ve all been praying for….

After enduring a horrific call for service where he was shot in the face, Sgt. Erik Levasseur was officially released from the hospital yesterday. Pictured here is a powerful sight—Erik walking in uniform standing tall with his wife by his side, strong and resolute, surrounded by the men and women of the Port St. Lucie Police Department and the incredible medical staff of Lawnwood who stood by him every step of the way.

This journey has been a long and painful road—not only for Erik, but for his family, who have carried this weight with unwavering strength, faith, and love. Their resilience has inspired an entire city.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all exceptional doctors, nurses, and medical professionals at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital and the medical staff at additional hospitals and facilities, whose skill, compassion, and tireless care played a vital role in Erik’s recovery.

Thank you as well to our dispatchers, EMS, fellow officers, our community and every individual who responded, supported, prayed, and stood watch during this time. This was a collective effort of courage, professionalism, and unity.

Later this evening, we will be sharing an exclusive video of Sgt. Levasseur’s Tunnel of Hope—a private and powerful moment as he exited the hospital, surrounded by PSLPD and staff who have become family through this ordeal.

Today, we celebrate strength.
Today, we honor service.
Today, we are reminded that hope is stronger than fear.

Sandi is currently receiving care in our Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, and she had powerful words about the team helping her through her recovery.

She shared how Miledie, Frankie, and Director David have shaped her experience:

“They greeted me with the biggest smiles. Everyone treats me like family — the way you’d treat your own mother. David’s positivity and the encouragement from the whole team make such a difference. I almost don’t want to go home because of how cared for I feel.”

We are honored to have you on our team, Brittany!

From patient to colleague, Brittany’s story is what makes HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital so special.

After receiving care in our hospital and Physical Rehabilitation Center last year, Brittany was so inspired by her experience that she decided to join our team! She became a rehab aide in August, giving back to patients the same compassion she once received.

“My care was just phenomenal. They cared for me like I was family. Everybody was so friendly. For me being a patient and having that connection with the staff meant so much to me. That alone made me want to be a part of this family. Now I get to have that same connection with my patients.” – Brittany
