Brazil has been a global leader in HIV prevention and care—providing free treatment for people living with HIV and free PrEP to those who want it. These efforts have helped more people stay healthy, reduce new HIV cases, and reinforce an important message: when HIV is undetectable, it is untransmittable (U=U).

Earlier this month, Midway Specialty Care Center was proud to host healthcare leaders from Brazil at our Wilton Manors clinic to share knowledge and hands-on experience with injectable PrEP, an exciting option in HIV prevention that is preparing to launch in Brazil.

This visit was about more than medicine—it was about learning from one another, sharing real-world experience, and strengthening global partnerships so more people everywhere can access the care they deserve.

We’re especially proud of our team members, including Dr. Hector Bolivar and Rodrigo Sabec, APRN, who helped lead this collaboration and represent Midway’s commitment to prevention, education, and compassionate care.

Together, progress like this brings us closer to a future with fewer new HIV cases and healthier communities worldwide.

This World AIDS Day, “joining in” can be as simple as knowing your HIV status.

When Dr. Lorraine Dowdy, Chief Medical Officer at Midway, began her training in 1987, HIV was almost always fatal. Time from diagnosis to death was often just one to two years.

Today, newer HIV medications mean many people diagnosed with HIV can have a near-normal life expectancy. Some of Dr. Dowdy’s patients have been living with HIV for more than 30 years.

That progress is real. But HIV is still a serious infection, and ignoring it is still risky.

❤️ This World AIDS Day:
- Get tested and know your status
- Get treated and stay in care if you are living with HIV
- Ask about PrEP or other prevention options if you are at risk
