We specialize in trauma-informed care for pre-adolescents and adolescents, which means we know things can get loud, unpredictable, and intense—but we also know how powerful the right team can be. The Role:
We’re looking for a Registered Nurse who’s equal parts calm under pressure, detail-obsessed, and kid-savvy. You’ll work closely with therapists, behavioral health staff, and leadership to support the medical needs of youth navigating serious emotional and psychiatric challenges. You’ll monitor, assess, educate, and medicate—sometimes all before lunch.

Responsibilities:

Administer medications accurately and on schedule (aka keep the chaos medicated responsibly)
Monitor the health and well-being of residents and respond to changes or crises
Perform assessments, triage situations, and communicate with the treatment team
Provide health education to residents in ways that actually make sense to a 13-year-old
Complete documentation like a pro, because if it’s not charted… you know the saying
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and guardians to coordinate care
Maintain medical supplies, stay cool in emergencies, and never underestimate the power of a Band-Aid
Requirements:

Current RN license in Kansas or compact license
Experience in psychiatric, pediatric, or residential nursing preferred
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and how it applies to youth
Excellent assessment skills and the ability to stay focused when things get unpredictable
Clear, compassionate communication skills with kids, coworkers, and caregivers
Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, or evenings if needed (we’re a 24/7 facility, after all)
Bonus points if you’ve ever had to coax a teen into taking meds with Gatorade and a motivational speech

The Role:
As a Behavioral Health Technician, you'll be working directly with youth in our residential program, helping to implement therapeutic plans, build trust, and support emotional and behavioral stability. Think of yourself as part mentor, part motivator, part “let’s try that coping skill again.”

Responsibilities:

Provide daily supervision, support, and positive engagement to residents
Assist with the implementation of treatment plans under clinical direction
Monitor behaviors and model healthy communication and coping strategies
Complete accurate documentation of interventions and observations (yes, paperwork—we know)
Support with crisis de-escalation using approved therapeutic techniques
Work closely with therapists, nurses, and admin staff (we’re all in this together)
Occasionally win at Uno or lose gracefully at ping pong—it’s in the unofficial job description
Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s in psychology, social work, or related field a plus
Experience working with youth or in behavioral health is preferred
Ability to stay calm under pressure and set consistent, healthy boundaries
Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, or overnights as needed
A good sense of humor, a big heart, and a reliable alarm clock

We had a special visitor on Friday for our Life Skills Class!

Dave Elliott came and did mock interviews with some of our kiddos to prepare them for the real world. He also saw a former student of his!

Fun for St. Patrick’s Day at KRI! ☘️ We played fun games, took residents to visit some special little friends and got a cookie. We also treated our staff to a wonderful Apple Nacho Bar.❤️

Last week some of our residents were able to attend an assembly where they listened to a comedian/motivational speaker at our local high school!

The presentation was about how everyone has a story and how those stories being shared can help our mental health and shape our relationships.

Thank you Fort Scott High School for the invitation! This was such a neat experience for our residents!
