Please join us in congratulating Dr Chelsea Meltzer aka Chelsea Jones for being inducted into the SouthSide Athletic Hall of Fame. We are honored she is a double board certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon who chose to return home in 2020 to practice medical and surgical dermatology at Johnson Dermatology. She is a slam dunk at preventing, diagnosing, and treating skin cancer.
Chelsea Jones Meltzer is a 2008 graduate of Southside High School. She graduated with 1,634 points. Chelsea’s proudest memory while at Southside is going undefeated against Northside in girls basketball her senior year. Chelsea was named the 2008 Southside High School Female Athlete of the year. She also advanced to the state tournament in doubles tennis as a junior and in singles as a senior, was a National Merit Scholar, president of the National Honor Society, and made all-A's from kindergarten through senior year.
She went on to play basketball at Purdue University from 2008 to 2012, advanced to the 2009 NCAA March Madness elite eight, and is a 2012 Big Ten champion. At Purdue, Chelsea was known for her vocal leadership on the court, great defense, and setting the best screens. In total she scored 429 points, grabbed 330 rebounds, and was a 3 year starter. At the end of her college career, Chelsea graduated with highest distinction and a 4.0 GPA.
After college, Chelsea went to medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where she excelled academically and matched into the competitive specialty of Dermatology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She now lives in Fort Smith with her husband, Grant, and children, Lucas and Shiloh. Dr. Meltzer works as a medical and surgical dermatologist at Johnson Dermatology and loves that she gets to serve the community that helped build her into the person she is today. Chelsea is the daughter of Dan and Casey Jones and older sister to Madison, Drew, and Baker.
