If you’re new to FEES you need to know that a quality swallow study is a comprehensive approach gathering information about underlying impairments, swallowing physiology and anatomy. 🤍If you’re not getting information about how the patient responded to aspiration because the study was stopped… you need a repeat study! 🤍Treatment outcomes hinge on a solid plan of targeted exercises and compensatory strategies that can only be discovered with detailed analysis. Comment 🤍below if you agree!

SLPs who rely on bedside swallow exams alone, accept a high margin of error.

The literature is clear: aspiration is frequently missed, diet recommendations become overly restrictive, and patients pay the price—through dehydration, malnutrition, pneumonia, and repeat hospitalizations.

Instrumental swallow evaluations like FEES change that.

They allow us to visualize secretion management, airway protection, and bolus flow in real time—so recommendations are based on physiology, not assumptions.

If your goal is accurate diagnosis, safer diets, and better outcomes... you need a quality swallow study!

This is why we partner with referral sources who value precision, evidence, and patient-centered care. If you need some research to back up your case for obtaining swallow studies, we've got you covered! Reach out for more support, we are here to help!

When something feels off, there’s usually a reason - This video shows incomplete vocal fold closure on Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
This is one of those findings that gets minimized — and shouldn’t.
When closure is incomplete, airway protection is compromised.
That matters for:
• swallowing safety
• voice quality
• fatigue
• reflux symptoms
• long-term respiratory health
This is also why we don’t believe in ‘one-size-fits-all’ swallow recommendations.
You can’t treat what you don’t fully assess or cannot even see.
And you can’t dismiss what patients are showing you - clinically or emotionally.
If you’ve ever noticed changes in your own voice or your patients, it does matter!
Have you seen or experienced something that feels off? Let’s chat!

Exciting news! We have another fantastic group of future SLPs coming from UAMS in Little Rock. I am so impressed with their interest and knowledge base about swallowing and swallowing disorders!
Thankful for my colleague and friend, Portia Carr, Ph.D., CCC-SLP at the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences because she has a passion for ensuring the future of our field is prepared for real-life experiences!
Mobile FEES of NWA presented basic FEES anatomy and physiology, benefits of FEES, case studies, and advocacy for ourselves and our patients. We also discussed the importance of self-care and learning how to have difficult conversations!

About us...

Mobile FEES of NWA provides (FEES) Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing in the River Valley, NWA and Southwest Missouri. FEES is a gold- standard, evidenced based and cost effective swallowing assessment which requires no radiation exposure, no barium consumption and can be preformed in the patients natural environment.

A Clinical Bedside Swallow Exam cannot properly diagnose dysphagia (the inability to swallow). Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) are AMAZING but we DO NOT have X-Ray goggles! Simply put, you cannot diagnose what you cannot see!

Mobile FEES of NWA is committed to being here for you! We are dedicated to being on site within 48 hours with our fancy, high-tech camera and when we leave you have the report in hand. No more difficulty reaching the SLP who preformed the study because we provide education and collaborate with nursing, SLP’s and family/caregivers during and after the study to ensure the highest level of service!
