Regulating your nervous system doesn’t always require big changes; small, intentional moments can help your body feel safe again.
Helpful Ways to Self-Regulate
- Slow your breathing (in for 4, out for 6)
- Step outside and let your senses ground you.
- Place a hand on your chest and remind yourself, “I’m safe right now.”
- Move your body; stretch, walk, or shake out tension.
- Limit overwhelm by focusing on one thing at a time.
Safety isn’t just something we find; it’s something we can create within ourselves. Be patient with your body as it learns to heal.
