Carrie Anne Lucas Counseling

Carrie Anne Lucas Counseling Professional counseling and marriage and family therapy focusing on marital, trauma, & grief/loss. We are not designed to handle hurt and pain alone.

Carrie Anne Lucas graduated from John Brown University with her Masters of Science in Community Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy and has been seeing clients since 2010. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Carrie is also a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, which is recognized as one of the most successful approaches to couples counseling. Carrie has experience working with couples and individuals with severe trauma and grief issues. Carrie has been married to Ryan since 2010, and they are passionate about fostering healthy marriages in the River Valley. They currently live in Fort Smith with their dog Benson and enjoy traveling as much as they can. I believe that therapy can allow you the space to work through this pain in a safe way. Utilizing the EFT model, which is attachment based, we work to re-connect and strengthen the bond of your relationship or even just yourself personally. We all have an innate need for secure connection and emotional engagement, and I work alongside my clients to foster those core connections in an experiential way. I hope to meet you wherever you are and create space to allow you the chance to move forward where you would like to be individually and/or with your partner. I consider it a great honor for you to consider trusting me with delicate parts of your life and relationships.

Sue Johnson busted into the therapy world at a time when cognition was king and shouted, “BONDS! EMOTIONS!” She was dismissed and overlooked by the field for far too long but kept on pursuing this radical idea that emotions aren’t the problem; they’re vital messengers that shape our connections and provide an entrance to deepen our bonds with our precious ones.

Thank God she did.

I met Sue in 2013 at my first EFT Externship. I watched her capture an entire ballroom of clinicians and speak with such passion about this work. At that time, Arkansas had no EFT certified therapists or supervisors, and I was lost on how to begin. I walked up to meet her on a break, snapped a photo, and asked her how to get started in this process of becoming an EFT therapist when no official community existed around me. She was funny and endearing, fanned my flame of excitement for this model, and encouraged me to create the something from nothing I needed. She said it as if it was the simplest task, and I realized later that it’s what she’d had to do throughout most of her career.

Fast forward a couple years later, and Arkansas was hosting its first EFT events with help from generous out of state trainers and supervisors and had begun certifying therapists and supervisors out of these ground floor Arkansas EFTer’s, which I thankfully get to say I was part of. We now have an EFT Center, host regular trainings, and have cultivated a robust, solid community of clinicians. I consider this network of people a second family, one of the safest and warmest communities I’ve ever experienced, and have formed some of my dearest friends and mentors here.

What was once nothing became the most beautiful, life changing something, indeed.

I’ve long admired Sue’s grittiness and persistence, not just as a therapist and visionary of this model, but as a woman facing the unknown with strength and zeal. Imagine being a woman in a field no doubt dominated by white men fixated on cognition and trying to convince them of a therapy model founded on bonds and emotions. She pioneered a way forward for new ways of thinking and showed us it was possible for women to have a seat at the damn table and to bring our own chair if necessary.

What a legacy she leaves, and what countless ripples will form for generations after us as a result of her work.

I am forever changed from all the somethings she created from nothing.

Well done, Sue. Well done.

Carrie Lucas I don’t know where you are in life right now, but if you’re searching through therapists’ websites, you might be in a tough spot. That’s where most of the people who come see me are: stuck. Stuck in a pattern of doing things they don’t want to be doing, stuck in a relationship...

I haven’t been active on my business page in quite a while. 2022 was quite a year for me personally, as I welcomed twins in December.

I am back from maternity leave and currently seeing clients via telehealth.

📸 This lovely photo was taken by Yellow Roads Photography in September of 2022 while the pregnancy glow was still around. My twins will be 6 months old next week!
