Men's Mental Health

November is often associated with Movember, an initiative focused on men's health, including mental health and su***de prevention.
Historically, men have been socialized to suppress emotions and "tough it out," which can be detrimental to their well-being and recovery from addiction. Seeking support is not a sign of weakness—it's a profound act of courage and self-care.
🤔 Think About It:
* What does "strength" truly mean to you? Could it be the courage to admit you need a hand, or the discipline to prioritize your emotional health?
* To the men in our community: Who is one person you can check in with or one professional you can reach out to this week?
* To partners, family, and friends: How can you create a safe, non-judgmental space for the men in your life to talk openly about their struggles?

Friendly Friday… let’s Thank the Hot Springs Police Department for the Boo with a Badge community partnership. It was amazing to see all of the local businesses that showed up and donated candy to the event.

Thank you to Lisa Haynes and Dee Gothard from Harbor House for the candy donation for Boo with a Badge. We appreciate your support!

Gratitude and Positivity!!!

Focusing on the good things in one's life to boost
mood and resilience.

* Share three things you are genuinely grateful for that happened this week.

When we practice gratitude, it directly affects the pleasure and reward center in your brain.
Gratitude has been linked to lower levels of cortisol, the body's primary stress hormone. Less cortisol means less strain on your nervous system, leading to greater feelings of calm and resilience.
The more you consciously practice positive thinking, the more you reinforce the neural pathways associated with those thoughts. This is like "rewiring" your brain to automatically notice the good things, making positivity a more habitual response.

Have a Thankful Thursday

🗣️ Talk About It Tuesday 🗣️

Let’s bust some common myths around substance use and addiction. Why? Because misinformation fuels stigma—and stigma keeps people from getting help.

Every Tuesday, we’ll break down a myth and uncover the real truth behind it. 💡

✅ It’s time to talk.
✅ It’s time to learn.
✅ It’s time to change the narrative.

Join the conversation and help spread awareness. 💬

Friendly Friday:

A Journey of Hope: From Addiction to Purpose at Harbor House

I came through Harbor House twice after battling a 25-year addiction. Looking back, I know without a doubt that if it weren’t for the love, patience, and unwavering support of the Harbor House staff, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They didn’t just help me rebuild my life — they helped me believe in myself again.

When I first came to Harbor House through Washington Madison County Drug Court, all I wanted was my freedom back. I was tired, broken, and homeless in another state. But from the moment I walked through those doors, something felt different. My experience in treatment was inspiring. I learned how to set boundaries, think differently, and see life through a new lens. Slowly, I started to realize that change was possible — that I was possible.

The day I was offered a job at Harbor House was one I’ll never forget. I felt such deep gratitude — not just for the opportunity, but for the chance to give back the same hope that had been given to me. Today, as a Recovery Coach, I get to walk alongside others on their own journeys, helping them find stability and strength as they prepare to step back into the world.

Harbor House isn’t just a workplace to me — it’s family. Through some of the hardest moments in my life, the support I’ve received has been nothing short of mind-blowing and heartfelt.

To anyone just starting the program, I want to say: Give it a chance. Listen. What you learn here can truly become the foundation of a brand-new life.

I’m forever grateful to Nicole Cherry, DuAnn Gothard, Lisa Haynes, and Samuel Tadlock for believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Being part of this family means everything — because together, we don’t just recover. We restore hope.
