Ever wonder what we’re looking for when we check your pet’s ears under the microscope? 👀🐶
These little guys are rod-shaped bacteria — and when we see these on an ear cytology, it usually means there’s more than just a simple ear infection going on. Rod bacteria are often associated with more stubborn infections that can cause redness, odor, discharge, and discomfort for your pup.
The good news? Identifying the type of bacteria helps us choose the most effective treatment, so your dog can get relief faster! 🙌
If your dog is shaking their head, scratching their ears, or you notice a funky smell… don’t wait. Ear infections can escalate quickly, but they’re very treatable when caught early.
Healthy ears = happy dogs 🐾💙
