Stephen collaborates with many colleagues on virtual implant planning. This is his first experience virtually planning a mandibular reconstruction where the patient has a superior AND inferior fibular graft. The request was to engage both fibula segments with the implants. This requires the use of a long implant and is a great indication for the 25 mm NobelSpeedy Groovy, which is typically used in the pterygomaxillary region. This is a great collaboration with Penn Medicine Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

We are pleased with the outcome with the new Esthetic NobelProcera Zirconia. This particular case was designed in exocad and milled by Nobel Biocare in their NJ facility. The requested shade of A1 was easily achieved with only a little surface stain. The ability to eliminate titanium bases and angle the screw channel at the multi-unit abutment level with this zirconia are two great benefits.

Stephen was appreciative of the opportunity to share information about the new Titanium ASC Custom Abutment solution from Nobel Biocare to colleagues at LMT Lab Day 2024. This abutment has many advantages over a stock or universal base solution. We look forward to improved patient outcomes with the technology. There is much more to come on this topic now that it is approved for patient use. Thank you to all who attended Stephen's lecture this morning!

Immediate full-arch dental implant reconstruction is on the rise and there are many ways to execute the treatment plan. Digital workflows have improved the communication between the treatment team and have optimized the outcome of the treatment. The monolithic conversion denture with occlusal locks and positioning handle shown here is one tool that allows us to achieve efficient and predictable results. The patented occlusal locks allow this prefabricated prosthesis to register the digitally-designed occlusion to BOTH the arch of treatment and the opposing dentition, thereby dramatically reducing the finishing time and occlusal equilibration.

CM Prosthetics recommends using some form of computer-assisted surgical placement of implants so this doesn't happen.

A manuscript Stephen co-authored was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Prosthodontics. This was the treatment of the young boy who had his nose bitten off by a hyena. His part in the rehabilitation was to design a framework that would expand as the kid grew into adulthood. We are now 10 years out from completing the treatment and the kid is bigger than Stephen! ---although that isn't exactly a huge feat in itself 😜

Stephen is part of an exciting program on dynamic navigation (X-Nav Technologies) hosted by Russo Seminars in Sarasota, FL. His topic during the two day program focuses on the workflow for the full-arch immediate reconstruction using a monolithic AvaDent Digital Dental Solutions Conversion Denture and virtual implant planning with Nobel Biocare's DTX Studio Implant. Drs. John Russo, Robert Emery and Robert Pauley headline the program. The 2022 dates for this course are:
