More than 95 percent of a child's brain is formed during the first few years of life. During this critical period, a child's experiences irreversibly affect how the brain develops - for better or worse. Positive, responsive parenting during the early years creates the strong parent-child bond that promotes healthy brain development. When families read aloud to their young children, they can give them a better start to life. Reading aloud is beneficial to your child because:

1. It nurtures young children.
2. It takes children to places they have never been.
3. It builds motivation, curiosity, and memory.
4. It creates positive association with books and reading.
5. It is a wonderful way of helping children reach their full potential.
6. It is a great way of engaging young children.

All children thrive on a regular bedtime routine. Regular sleep deprivation often leads to some pretty difficult behaviors and health problems—irritability, difficulty concentrating, hypertension, obesity, headaches, and depression. Children who get enough sleep have a healthier immune system, better school performance, behavior, memory, and mental health.

In the first year, babies learn to focus their vision, reach out, explore, and learn about things around them. They are also developing bonds of love and trust with their parents and others as part of social and emotional development. The way you cuddle, hold, and play with your baby will set the basis for how they will interact with you and others. Here is a positive parenting quick tip to help you support your baby during this time:

For children aged 3-4 years, it is important for them to still engage in 180 minutes of physical activity a day, but make sure to include a variety of both moderate- and vigorous-intensity exercises. Contact your child's pediatrician if you have any questions or concerns regarding physical activity.
