A heartfelt thank-you to the amazing students from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion who chose Stillwater Hospice for their Serve Day!

Your kindness shone through as you raked leaves at a patient’s home and helped with general cleaning at our Marion office — small acts that make a big difference. Your willingness to serve reflects the true spirit of compassion and community that we cherish.

We’re so grateful for your time, energy, and servant hearts!

Leslie has been transformational for Stillwater Hospice. Thanks to the generous support of the Foellinger Foundation’s Barbara Burt Innovative Leader Fund, our board is gaining new strength and insight. Our Board Chair, Derick Bailey, recently attended the National Partnership for Healthcare & Hospice Innovation Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., where he connected with national thought-leaders and brought back fresh, strategic perspectives.

This investment in leadership development is more than a professional opportunity — it’s a real reflection of our mission. For 137 years, Stillwater Hospice has proudly provided compassion, comfort and guidance to families and individuals throughout our 12-county region of northeast Indiana, and we turn no one away simply because of their means. With this enhanced board capacity, we’ll be even better equipped to serve generously, inclusively, and sustainably.

A century of commitment

The seeds of Visiting Nurse were planted in 1888, when women of the growing city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, banded together to deliver food and medicine to the “sick poor.” On March 1, 1900, Visiting Nurse was incorporated and hired its first paid nurse. Visiting Nurse’s mission is to provide compassionate care to alleviate suffering and ensure quality of life for those affected by serious illness through our hospice and palliative care services. Visiting Nurse cares for those who go on living, with grief support services available at no charge for any adult who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Hospice involvement is not required. We serve these Indiana counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wabash, Wells and Whitley.
