We mourn the passing of Dr. Balfour Mount (1939–2025), the pioneering “father of palliative care.” 🌿

In 1975, Dr. Mount launched the world’s first Palliative Care Unit in Montreal and coined the term “palliative care,” creating a global model for compassionate, whole-person care. His vision—addressing the physical, psychosocial, existential, and spiritual needs of patients and families—continues to inspire hospice and palliative care worldwide.

Our thoughts are with his wife, family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his groundbreaking work. His legacy of dignity and care will live on. 💙
