Here’s something nobody tells you about hospital births: the rules keeping you in that bed? A lot of them aren’t real.

Women perceive that being “good” means staying still, staying in the bed. The nurse didn’t say it. The doctor didn’t say it. But the space communicates it, and women follow the unspoken rules.

At the birth center, one of our core pillars is absolute freedom of movement. Walk the parking lot. Get in the tub. Get on the floor. Move through the pain because movement is pain management. Do whatever is best for mom and keeping labor moving to meet her baby.

I talked about this and a lot of other birth center details with certified nurse midwife Marianne Stroud (my beautiful wife!) on All Things Women’s Health. Comment PODCAST and I’ll send a link to the episode.

The fear of being “stuck” without pain relief is one of the biggest things holding women back from choosing a birth center.

But *helping* you through labor is what we do at . Not just keeping you and baby safe — that’s the baseline. Our job is to help you feel supported through one of the most powerful moments of your life.

A birth center isn’t a place where you white-knuckle it alone. It’s where you have a team whose entire focus is you.

I talked to my beautiful wife, certified nurse midwife Marianne about all things birth center on the latest episode of All Things Women’s Health. We answered many of the most frequent questions we get from families. Comment PODCAST and I’ll send a link to the full episode.

Just a reminder for all of us: the people we meet are not our enemies, whether they agree with us or not, whether they’re in person or online.

There is no greater fight than the fight for life, but never forget that God is on our side and prayer is one of our greatest weapons.

March was Endometriosis Awareness Month, and I loved seeing so much conversation about this disease, but one thing kept coming up that I want to address.

You may have seen posts saying you don’t need surgery anymore to diagnose endometriosis. Just get an MRI or an ultrasound and you’re good to go.

That’s not the full picture.

Yes, a clinical diagnosis is now recognized, and that’s a meaningful shift and good news for women looking for answers for her symptoms.

The problem comes in because a *negative* MRI or ultrasound does not rule out endometriosis. The negative predictive value of these tests is low, which means if it comes back clear, you could still have the disease.

Laparoscopy remains the gold standard. And skipping it — especially when symptoms are pointing to something — can have real consequences for your fertility down the road.

The diagnostic procedure itself is simpler than most people think. Small incision, tiny camera, most patients are back to normal the next day. It’s not as scary as the word “surgery” sounds.

If your symptoms need an explanation, you deserve one. Don’t let a normal scan be the end of the conversation.

In my 35+ years as an OBGYN, one thing I’ve seen again and again is that new moms are desperate for support. But not just from healthcare providers or unverified online advice. Moms need real community.

That’s what we’re creating with Moms of FMCC. It is a private, trusted space designed exclusively for women navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, early motherhood, and every other challenge that new moms face. Instead of relying on conflicting online advice, you’ll find guidance from the providers you already know and trust alongside support from a community of women experiencing the same season of life you are.

The first 48 hours home aren’t supposed to look perfect. They’re supposed to be filled with grace.

Your older kid might eat french fries off the ground. The laundry might not get done. Nothing might go the way you planned. And all of that is okay.

Out CNM Erin’s best advice: let it be.

Erin and our other midwives, providers, and FMCC moms just like you are talking about the first two nights at home with a newborn in our FMCC Moms private community this week! Comment MOMS and I’ll send a link to join.

Maybe someone gave you the impression that the first two days postpartum are supposed to feel like a spa day. Rest, skin to skin, hydrate, eat…

But that’s just not always the reality. 😅 Our certified nurse midwife Erin explained in our FMCC Moms Community why her advice now looks a LOT different than what she used to tell patients.

If you’re in those first two days and it feels less like a spa and more like… survival mode — we’re here for you. And if you’re looking for a place with other moms just like you and trusted FMCC providers you already know, join us in the FMCC Moms Community to share the highs, lows, laughs, and tears of motherhood in a space that’s safe and protected. Our Mission

To care for women and their families in a way that is scientifically and morally sound, while respecting a woman’s ability and right to manage her health, pregnancy care, and birth experience to the extent she desires. To accomplish this, we utilize the expertise of both Obstetricians/ Gynecologists and Certified Nurse-Midwives in a fully integrated model of care that allows both groups of professionals to offer their very best. The result: patients and their families receive personalized, comprehensive care they simply cannot receive in any other model of care.

We are an authentically pro-life practice. As part of our vision, we utilize Creighton Fertility Model/NaProTECHNOLOGY™ and therefore do not prescribe artificial contraceptives, place IUD’s, perform sterilization procedures, refer for in-vitro fertilization (IVF), or refer for or participate in pregnancy termination (abortion) under any circumstance.

We believe our practice is most certainly and purposefully different from most. It is not our desire to care for everyone, but to care for everyone that needs our unique approach to care. We believe unencumbered access to our providers is a key component to our successful outcomes. As such our patients are encouraged to communicate with us directly via the means that works best for them including cell phone, email, and text messaging. We believe it is an honor to serve as partners with our patients in their healthcare and we do everything possible to treat the sanctity of that relationship with the respect it deserves.
