Welcome Fellow in Training, Holly Bernhold!
Holly is a PT pursuing her Fellowship of the Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy certification (FAAOMPT) under Fellow, Doug Mallers.
Holly gives insight to the fellowship program…. “I am a fellow in training with the Manual Therapy Institute based out of Texas. It is a program that provides advanced training in orthopedic manual therapy techniques and clinical reasoning. Our courses are an in depth look at the musculoskeletal system that help us to find the real cause of the cause for injury and treat the tissue at fault. Whether that be muscle, nerve, ligament, bursa, capsule, ect. We learn about techniques for best differentiating presentation of each of these diagnosis to a greater depth in order to provide high quality care directed at the target tissue which in turn yield faster and better results with the physical therapy we provide. The courses are every 2 months for a hare under 3 years. We are tested on a midterm and final exam and practical. Once we test for our final we have a certificate in manual physical therapy (CMPT) and then if we continue on to do our 450 fellowship hours under another fellow we would complete that with a Fellowship of the American Academy of orthopedic manual physical therapy (FAAOMPT) There are less than 3,000 fellows with this in the world, Doug being one of them. The fellowship hours are spent 1:1 to work through clinical reasoning and put together the new techniques we have learned in our courses for examination and treatment. I will be continuing to do the rest of my hours with Doug through the rest of this year”.
