What’s a DOULA
My POV : holding a mama in your arms as she tries to breathe through each contraction
It’s turning mama in every position possible to get her to dialate
It’s encouraging mama that her body is doing what’s suppose to do that she has this
Then there’s the change in the birth plan
It’s holding mama while she cries and prepares for a c-section
It’s holding her in my arms and letting her know she didn’t fail
It’s wiping tears and reminding mom she’s still amazing
It’s helping mom stay calm as they prepare to cut on her
It’s sitting next to mom in the OR and telling her she’s safe her baby is safe and that I’m here
It’s mom asking me to hold her hands while they start the process
It’s mom looking in my eyes with so much fear but yet calm because I’m near
It’s talking to mom while she feels the pressure and tug as they pull the baby out of her belly
It’s whipping her tears once she hears that first cry
It’s holding baby next to moms face while she is being stitched back up
It’s congratulating her and telling her she did it
It’s holding the baby for mom while she recovers and feel safe
It’s mom saying I want to sleep but I’m scared something will happen while I’m back her
It’s me as the doula sitting in the recovery room with mom and baby so she can sleep and seeing mom rest and feel relaxed
It’s bonding with a new life thats fresh and looking at you in the eyes
It’s helping mom do skin to skin when she’s weak after surgery
It’s helping her breastfeed and getting baby to latch
It’s checking on her emotions the day after baby
What’s a doula she’s so much more than just a birth worker she heals the body mind and soul of a mother

✨ My Heart Is Full Tonight ✨

Every now and then I sit with the messages I’ve received from my moms…
the late-night thank yous, the “I couldn’t have done this without you,”
the “you kept me going when I felt like giving up,”
the “you were the only one who really understood me.”

Today, I received another one — soft, honest, and from the heart:

💬 “Thank you so much for being there for me… I wouldn’t have got through it without you.”

And it reminded me of a truth I hold close:

Being a doula is not just a job for me.
It’s a ministry.
It’s love in action.
It’s sitting with women through the hardest and holiest moments of their lives…
and watching them rise.

Every mother I’ve supported has poured something into me too.
Their strength.
Their trust.
Their vulnerability.
Their gratitude.

All of it stays with me.
All of it humbles me.
All of it reminds me that I was chosen for this work.

To every mom who has ever said,
“Thank you,”
“You helped me breathe again,”
“You made me feel safe,”
or even simply,
“I’m glad you were there”…

Just know — I carry your words in my heart.

Thank you for allowing me into your sacred space.
Thank you for letting me walk beside you.
